Mbale District to  flag off 180 Community Health Extension workers (CHEWS) to 90 Parishes.

180 Community Health workers (CHEWS) to be  flagged off to start work at parish level

The CHEWS were trained to bridge between communities and health facilities in terms of sensitising, identifying chronic illness, immunisations, testing and treating classified cases and making referrals to designated facilities within their reach.

Several items like bicycles, safety aid carriers, personal kits have been delivered to enable the community health workers Kickstart their roles at parish level.

Two CHEWs per parish across the entire district are designed to ease health services and assist in areas where certain cases are pronounced resistant.

While talking to one of the trainees, he says this is a motivation to step up timely services to help our people in communities receive medical attention and support them on other spaces in areas of health.

"Many times people are ignorant about health services and they die in pain due to lack of proper medication, I am very sure some of  our villages are hard to reach but with our designation in those Parishes,  comprehensive services are quality assured." He said

Masagwayi Agnes, the district health educator says the pass out is to strengthen community level health service delivery by providing effective community based health services particularly in disease prevention, health promotion, community mobilization, community health assessment and referral.
